Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at WellcomeMD
Why Choose a Hyperbaric Chamber at 2 ATA?
In the evolving landscape of longevity and recovery medicine, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is gaining momentum, not just for vitality but also for its scientifically backed benefits in age management, injury recovery, and performance optimization.
At WellcomeMD, our therapeutic-grade hyperbaric chamber delivers treatment at 2 ATA (atmospheres absolute), a pressure level shown in clinical research to support recovery, boost oxygenation, and support healthy aging.

What Is a Hyperbaric Chamber and Why Does 2 ATA Matter?
A hyperbaric chamber is a pressurized environment where patients breathe 90% to 95% oxygen, allowing oxygen to reach areas of the body that are inflamed, damaged, or low in blood supply. This promotes recovery at the cellular level. While many soft-sided chambers only reach 1.3 ATA – a pressure often too low to be effective – WellcomeMD’s hard-sided chamber safely reaches 2 ATA. By utilizing regular room (air (21% O2) to achieve this higher pressure, we completely eliminate the fire risks associated with high-oxygen environments. The pressure level required to deliver medically validated results in all peer-reviewed journal articles is 2 ATA, which is only achievable in hard-sided chambers. By doing so with a maintained low oxygen environment and high volume oxygen masks (or nasal canulas) the maximum benefits can be achieved with optimal safety.
- Supports recovery
- Enhances post-workout recovery
- Reduction of senescent (aging) cells
- Promotes focus, concentration, and cognitive wellness
- Supports healthy-looking skin
Soft Chamber vs. Hard Chamber
Medical-Grade Hard-Sided Hyperbaric Chamber (Used at WellcomeMD)
Hard Chamber
(Used at WellcomeMD)
- Reaches up to 2.0 ATA safely
- Delivers 90-95% oxygen generated by oxygen concentrators.
- Plasma oxygen concentration is increased by as much as 15 times normal
- Backed by peer-reviewed clinical studies
- Supervised by trained medical professionals
- Capable of producing therapeutic results in:
- Longevity and organ protection
- Neuroplasticity and cognitive support, improved focus and problem solving
- Improved post-op healing
- Faster recovery from sports injury & muscle pain.
Soft Chamber
(Common in Spas or At-Home Use)
- Max out around 1.3 ATA pressure
- Use oxygen but at low pressure that only improves plasma oxygen concentration by 1-2 times normal
- Not clinically validated for expedited post-operative recovery or soft-tissue repair
Longevity & Aging
A groundbreaking study published in Aging (2020) demonstrated that HBOT at 2 ATA and 100% oxygen:
- Increased telomere length by up to 20%
- Reduced senescent cells by over 30%
This translates to improved cellular health, enhanced DNA protection, and decreased inflammation.
Faster Healing from Injuries
2 ATA hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been shown to:
- Support recovery of ligaments, muscles, and tendons
- Stimulate new blood vessel growth
- Help reduce swelling, pain, and oxidative stress
- Enhance immune system response
Beauty, Skin & Wellness
For patients looking for support with healthy aging or wellness routines, HBOT sessions can help:
- Promote healthy-looking skin
- Manage everyday stress
- Support vitality
- Encourage relaxation
Athletic Recovery & Performance
Whether you’re a high-performing athlete or weekend warrior, using a hyperbaric chamber can help:
- Support active lifestyle and post-workout recovery
- Promote relaxation and restoration
- Optimize performance longevity
- Support energy and endurance

The Science Behind HBOT
Under normal conditions, oxygen is carried primarily by red blood cells. But in a hyperbaric chamber, increased pressure enables oxygen to dissolve directly into plasma, lymph, and other fluids, reaching areas with limited blood flow or tissue damage.
Key Physiological Effects:
- Increased oxygen delivery to tissues that are injured, inflamed, or oxygen-deprived
- Supports stimulation of stem cells
- Helps reduce inflammation and oxidative stress
- Angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels)
- Supports immune modulation to help fight infection and promote repair
- Supports mitochondrial function, which boosts cellular energy production

Common Questions
What can I expect during my first HBOT consultation?
What happens during a hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) consultation?
Before your first session, our clinical team will review your medical history and treatment goals and ensure HBOT is safe and appropriate for your condition. Based on your health objectives, you’ll receive personalized guidance on how many sessions are recommended.
What should I expect when entering a hyperbaric chamber?
WellcomeMD uses a spacious, hard-sided multiplace chamber (40” diameter, 2.0 ATA), designed for maximum comfort and safety. You’ll be seated or reclined in a relaxed position inside the chamber. Our HBOT can comfortably seat two people if they want to be treated together.
How does the pressurization process work during HBOT?
As the session begins, the chamber gradually increases in pressure. This process typically takes about 10–15 minutes to achieve desired 2 ATA pressure.
You may feel ear pressure, similar to taking off or landing in an airplane or scuba diving. Swallowing, yawning, or gently pinching your nose and blowing can help equalize the pressure.
What happens during the oxygen therapy portion of an HBOT session?
During pressurization and once at full pressure, you will begin breathing 90-95% oxygen generated by oxygen concentrators, either through a mask or hood, depending on the setup.
Most sessions last 60 to 90 minutes, during which you can relax, or meditate. You will be continuously monitored by our clinical team.
What is decompression, and what does it feel like after an HBOT session?
At the end of the session, the chamber slowly returns to normal atmospheric pressure over about 5-10 minutes. You may feel a similar ear sensation as during pressurization.
After the Session
Most patients feel calm and energized afterward. Some may experience mild fatigue or light-headedness, which typically resolves within a few hours. There’s no downtime, and you can resume daily activities immediately.
Your care team will track your progress over time, especially if HBOT is part of a larger treatment plan such as surgery recovery, sports medicine, stress management or simply part of a longevity regimen.
