Aging Optimally - A Physician's Perspective

I have practiced medicine for over 15 years, and I was struck by how many of my patients came to me with symptoms that I could not address with a prescription pad alone. Everything looked “normal”, but they still felt fatigue, pain, and a general lack of vitality.

My med school training told me the answer for these folks was, “Well you are getting older, this is to be expected.” But that was not an answer that satisfied me - I sensed that there was more I could do.

So I sought out training in functional medicine, nutrition, herbal medicine, biofeedback, and meditation. I learned that solid evidence-based research supports both new advanced treatments and ancient practices that addresses these common symptoms of aging.

Traditional primary care is still crucial in preventing or treating conditions like diabetes, heart attack, and cancer. But nutrition, fitness, hormone balancing, gut health, sleep, and stress can make enormous differences in how you feel and perform.

At WellcomeMD we focus on your quality of life, taking the time to proactively protect and advance your health. In-depth lab panels look beyond standard annual tests. Genetics, advanced lipid studies, inflammatory markers, hormones, insulin resistance markers, supplements, and medications all play a part in developing a personalized lifestyle plan to help you age optimally.

Recently, I had a patient come to me with that familiar story. She felt terrible, but according to standard labs, she was in fine health. By using our advanced lab panel, and an in-depth nutrition assessment I found she suffered from hyperlipidemia (high fat content in the blood), and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Together these conditions can cause fatigue, cold intolerance, weight gain, heart disease and a host of other issues.

We also pinpointed low vitamin D and B levels, and low magnesium which can cause symptoms as well. She has added supplements to her regime, made some nutritional changes and is feeling much better.

Perhaps you feel that your current medical care is not getting to the cause of your symptoms. Or you don’t get the time you need with your doctor. We’d be happy to arrange a personal tour and discussion. Email info@wellcomeMD.com or call 888.531.3844 or visit WellcomeMD.com.
